The Whole Driver in Section

The cross-section that ties the driver together — motor, coil, suspension and basket — and the excursion limits read from it.

A half section of the driver

The Assembly Drawing is a half section of the driver, drawn from the current design every time you open the page. The motor stays fixed while the coil and the suspension move. Steel parts are coloured by saturation, the air gap is light blue, the magnet colour follows its material, and the spider and surround are coloured by stress.

Parts, view and basket

Show or hide the voice coil, front plate, magnet and back plate; the spider, diaphragm, dust cap and basket appear once their pages are linked. Former above neck sets the former height while the spider is linked, and a spacer can be set between the lips of a dual spider. A simulated basket is built around the surround, spider and motor you have designed, with its volume, surface and mass reported.

The slider moves the coil and suspension through their travel up to the coil-crash limit, and the animation buttons play the excursion. F(x) and Kms(x) for the spider and surround together, and the motor curve windows, open from the same page.

Excursion limits

The strip along the bottom collects the excursion limits of the whole driver, following the Klippel definitions (AN5 / IEC 62458):

  • Xmax physical — overhang, (winding height − front plate thickness) / 2.
  • Xmax10 82% BL and Xmax20 70% BL — Klippel XBl.
  • XC50 50% Cms — Klippel XC, from the combined spider and surround curve.
  • XL 10% Zmax — Klippel XL, from the inductance variation.
  • Xd 10% d2 — Klippel XD, the Doppler limit.
